The Best Time to Explore the Hocking Hills

Wondering when to visit the Hocking Hills? Here are our tips.

On social media, we receive a lot of questions. But one of the most popular questions is: When is the best time to visit the Hocking Hills?

To be honest, it's a complicated question. The answer has a lot to do with what is important to you and what you'd like to do. There really isn't one best time for everyone.

However, after talking to our wonderful fans, we have figured out a few times that give most people what they need.

Early Morning

If you're looking to avoid people, but you want to come to the Hocking Hills during a popular season on the weekend, get up early! Most people will be on the trails mid-afternoon, so if you get out there early, there's a good chance you'll be the only person on even the favorite trails.

During a Light Rain

If you would like some amazing, eerie photos, exploring during a light rain will give you a chance at just that. Most people will avoid being outdoors during any kind of weather, but it can actually be quite enjoyable to. be on the trails during a light rain. And a gray day looks pretty spectacular against those greens and browns of the Hocking Hills.

Mid-Week

If you're not an early bird and you want to plan ahead, consider staying during the week. It's easier to get a cabin and accommodations are usually cheaper, so it's a great way to stretch your dollar. And with fewer people in the area, you can do more activities and enjoy more trails without having to share the experience with others.

Off-Season

If you can't get off work for a mid-week adventure, another great option is off-season. If you go late fall, early winter or early spring, you still have the luxury of mild weather. You might get muddy but sometimes that can be half the fun. However, not everyone thinks that, so you are more likely to get some uninterrupted exploring in.

Like we said, there is no best time to explore for everyone. But if you are looking to get great photos, want to enjoy the area by yourself or get a deal on a stay, try one of these times above.
