New Straitsville Memorial Association

New Straitsville offers several local memorials, parks, and historic cemeteries that honor the area's veterans, coal-mining history, and local families. 

Monument Square offers a granite 3-D Iwo Jima memorial dedicated in 2008 to U.S. armed forces. The back inscription—added by Robert Howard of Quality Monument Service—lists local service members from the Civil War, Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II, alongside a tribute to "The Four Chaplains". It is wheelchair-accessible.
