Hocking Hills cabins perfect for a last-minute Thanksgiving getaway

Seriously, does anything sound better than Thanksgiving in a Hocking Hills cabin right now?

Holidays can be stressful, but they don’t have to be. Picture this instead: All around you, trees and creeks and the sounds of nature — crickets and birds and breezes. An autumn chill, an outdoor fire pit. A patio and a hot tub. A glass of wine and a prepared Thanksgiving meal. Room for the kids to roam and the adults to breathe.

It's just like outdoor retailer REI suggested recently: Opt Outside this Thanksgiving instead of going shopping and find yourself refreshed and rejuvenated.

Sounds peaceful and lovely, huh? You’ve now sent this article to your spouse, kids, siblings, and friends, haven’t you? You’re now flush with the excitement of possibility, but, well, first things first: We’ve got to find some Hocking Hills cabins still available.

Lodging

You might be surprised to learn there are still vacancies at many Hocking Hills hotels, cabins and inns. If you're traveling with a pet, you have options. If you’re wanting seclusion, a lakeside view, you have options. (As of this writing, there were dozens for each, in fact.)

If you're wanting to bring a large group of family and friends, you have options. You can pick lodging that’ll house up to nine people in one unit or spots with four or more bedrooms able to sleep nine or more people. There are wraparound porches and open-floor plan lodges with state-of-the-art amenities. You can find spots with breathtaking views and those surrounded by nothing but trees and wildlife.

Now that you’ve found a place to stay, let’s get to some of the fun stuff during your Thanksgiving visit.

Wednesday

So you got here early and you're looking for something to do. You could stop by the Athens Farmers' Market for fresh produce, particularly if you still have Thanksgiving meal prep to do. You could take a yoga class at the Blue Valley Massage & Traveling Spa.

Or stop by the Hocking Hills Winery for Sweet Treat Wednesday and get 25 percent off handmade gourmet caramel apples.

Thursday

We both know you’re not planning to do much today besides eat and sleep and hang with the fam. Let’s look at a few options for that first task.

    • The Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls has a Thanksgiving package. Dine on turkey and innkeeper Terry's homemade pumpkin pie. Also available is a Thanksgiving dinner for $42. Meal options include White Bean Soup with Lardons & Crouton, Slow Roasted Turkey Breast with Pan Gravy (or Pan Seared Tofu if your food preferences lean that way), Brown Butter Whipped Sweet Potatoes, and Bourbon-Pecan Pie with Whipped Cream.

Friday

Put a little more joy back into your holiday shopping by stopping at Nelsonville's Final Fridays. Peruse gifts of handmade art and visit Santa's Village on the Square.

Otherwise, if you're doing the #optoutside campaign and hitting the outdoors, might we suggest this Ultimate Bucket List of Hocking Hills activities?
