Wetland Wonders Bike Tour

May 11, 2024

Family Friendly, Free Fun, History, Outdoor, Tours

The Big Bailey Wetland, covering 6-7 acres, has a rich history as it was once part of a mine-operated railroad. Now, it is a flourishing habitat for various wildlife, including a small Blue Heron rookery at the far end of the wetland. Bald eagles have also been observed here. It's a great spot for bird watching and observing the local wildlife. We will start and finish our tour at The Baileys Trailhead in Chauncey. **A part of the tour will go along route OH-13, which does have some traffic. There is enough space for biking, but please keep in mind that this might not be the best fit for younger children. Experience the beauty of spring and discover the biodiversity of Southeast Ohio with Appalachian Understories! This guided bike tour is FREE thanks to support from the Wayne National Forest. This is a non-competitive event. Participants are asked to bring their own biking equipment as well as water. Bikes that can handle gravel are preferred. Binoculars are encouraged. Helmets are required. Adaptive bikes are available for participants with limited mobility, please reach out to Madison Donohue (madison@ruralaction.org) at least 24 hours in advance to request an adaptive bike.
